Drag race: Ford Mustang CS500 vs Mini Hayabusa

June 21, 2022 by

It may seem odd to race a classic Mini against a tuned V8 Mustang, but all will become clear when you find out what the little Austin is hiding.

Let’s talk Mustang first. It has a 5.0-litre naturally-aspirated V8 which has been tuned by Clive Sutton to produce 490hp and 530Nm of torque. This drives the rear wheels only via a 10-speed automatic gearbox, and the car weighs in at 1,730kg.

Taking on the Mustang, we have no ordinary Mini. In place of the back seats, you’ll find the 1,300cc engine from a Suzuki Hayabusa motorbike. This produces 180hp and 150Nm of torque, fed to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential gearbox. It’s very light as well, with the whole car coming in at 500kg.

So which car will come out on top? Can the lightweight Mini really be a match for a V8 muscle car? You’ll have to watch the video to find out.
