This is the new Kia Sorento. The Skoda Kodiaq alternative has been given a pretty heavy makeover, with updated styling and an interior overhaul.
In a world where diesel is falling out of favour with buyers, the new Sorento is still available with an oil burner under the bonnet. It’s also now £3,000 cheaper than the outgoing model.
New Kia Sorento price and specs
You can place your order for a new Kia Sorento now, and it starts from £41,995. That makes it slightly cheaper than a Land Rover Discovery Sport, and it’s even £3,000 cheaper than the outgoing Sorento. The new Skoda Kodiaq is a few thousand pounds cheaper though.
There are three trim levels available from launch, simply called 2, 3 and 4. All versions of the Sorento can be optioned with a diesel, hybrid or plug-in hybrid engine, and you get seven seats as standard.
New Kia Sorento 2: from £41,995
You don’t have to go for the top-spec Sorento to get a healthy selection of standard equipment. All cars come with heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a reversing camera and 17-inch alloy wheels.
New Kia Sorento 3: from £46,195
Stepping up to the 3 gets you some desirable upgrades such as 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, electric front seats and interior ambient lighting. The digital driver’s display also grows from 4.0 inches to 12.3 inches, and you get a 12-speaker Bose audio system.
New Kia Sorento 4: From £50,695
Sitting at the top of the Sorento tree is the 4. This range-topper gets a panoramic glass sunroof, Nappa leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, a head-up display and an electrically adjustable steering column.
New Kia Sorento design
This is a pretty heavy design update for the Kia Sorento, with elements of the new EV9 to be found throughout.
The most notable example of this is up front, where the headlights are now mounted vertically rather than horizontally like they used to be. The new daytime running lights flow neatly from the bonnet into the lamps, and the front grille is now wider and more imposing.
Changes down the side are less dramatic, although there are some new alloy wheel designs to choose from. The rear end has been smartened up with some revised tail lights and a new bumper.
New Kia Sorento interior and infotainment
The interior of the new Kia Sorento has been rethought as thoroughly as the exterior, with a new infotainment system taking pride of place.
The old Sorento had a pretty dated-looking central screen, whereas the new car has a pair of displays behind one sheet of glass like you get on the EV9. All but the entry-level model get dual 12.3-inch screens, but the 2 has to make do with a 4.0-inch driver’s display and physical dials.
Elsewhere you’ll find the same touch sensitive climate controls as you get on the Kia Sportage, replacing the smattering of buttons across the dashboard, and the upright central air vents have been replaced with some thin horizontal ones spanning the dashboard.
New Kia Sorento engines
Fans of the old-fashioned oil-burner rejoice, the new Kia Sorento is still available with a 2.2-litre diesel engine. The outgoing Sorento diesel was one of the best SUVs you could buy for towing, it could pull up to 2,500kg. While it’s not been confirmed just yet, the new Sorento should be just as capable.

You can also get a 1.6-litre petrol hybrid with 212hp, and there’s a plug-in hybrid as well for those who want a taste of the EV life. The electric-only range is yet to be confirmed, but the outgoing car could manage 35 miles without the engine kicking in.
