A very special BMW M4 drag race
September 06, 2025 by Mat Watson

I love the BMW M4. It’s amazing to drive, practical enough to use everyday and it has that awesome straight-six engine under the bonnet.
Over the years there have been loads of special edition M4s which are more hardcore, faster and track-focussed, and I’ve managed to gather all of them on the Carwow drag strip. From the previous F82 generation we’ve got a CS, GTS and a DTM, and I’ve also managed to get hold of the CS and CSL versions of the current car.
So let’s take a closer look at the stats to see what we’re working with, starting with the F82 generation cars.
Remember, you can buy a brand new or used car right here on Carwow. And you can sell your car, too. We’re here to help you through every step of your car-changing journey.
BMW M4 CS F82

Every car here is powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged straight-six engine, and in the F82 M4 CS it puts out 460hp and 600Nm of torque. This is sent to the rear wheels only via a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, and it weighs in at 1,580kg. This car cost £90,000 when it was new, but today it’s worth around £40,000.
BMW M4 GTS F82

The M4 GTS uses the same basic engine as the CS, but it now puts out 500hp and 600Nm of torque. It also has rear-wheel drive and a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, and it’s lighter than the CS at 1,510kg. When new, this GTS cost around £120,000, but now it’s worth £80,000.
BMW M4 DTM F82

The final F82 M4 we have is the DTM, and it uses the same basic engine as the other two cars. Like the GTS, it produces 500hp and 600Nm of torque, which goes to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, and it weighs 1,510kg.
The main differences between this and the GTS are in the suspension, because the DTM is more track-focussed. That’s unlikely to help here though, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens. This DTM cost £130,000 when it was new, and now it’s worth about £80,000.
BMW M4 CS G82

Now we come to the latest G82 M4, and this is the CS version. Like the older models it has a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged straight-six engine with 550hp and 650Nm of torque. It has four-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic gearbox, and this CS weighs in at 1,760kg. If you fancy one of these, it’ll set you back £117,000.
BMW M4 CSL G82

Finally we come to the most hardcore car here: the G82 M4 CSL. It’s got the same 550hp straight-six engine as the CS, but here it sends power to the rear wheels only. It’s also lighter than the G82 CS, tipping the scales at 1,625kg, and it’s more expensive as well. When new, this car cost nearly £130,000.
So which of these very special BMWs will come out on top? Make sure you watch this week’s video to find out.
