Drag race: Tuned Ferrari 488 Pista vs McLaren 750S

Few things bring me more joy than beating Yianni in a drag race, and today I’ve decided to really wind him up by cheating a little bit.

I’ve put him in a completely standard McLaren 750S, but my Ferrari 488 Pista has been modified for more power. Am I going to tell him that? Of course not.

Tuned Ferrari 488 Pista

My Ferrari 488 Pista has a 3.9-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine which usually makes 720hp and 770Nm of torque. However, this car has £17,000 worth of upgrades fitted including new turbochargers, downpipes and an ECU tune.

The result is 920hp and 870Nm of torque, and this is sent to the rear wheels only via a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The 488 tips the scales at 1,485kg, and it costs £400,000 with the modifications.

McLaren 750S

Poor old Yianni has to make do with just 750hp and 800Nm of torque from his McLaren’s 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine. It’s also rear-wheel drive and has a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

The 750S is lighter though at 1,438kg, so all’s not lost for my old drag racing chum just yet. His car is also a lot less expensive, with a price tag of £277,000.

So which car will come out on top? Will my bending of the rules lead to a victory, or will the McLaren be the surprise victor? You’ll have to watch this week’s video to find out.
