Ferrari SF90 vs BMW M240i vs Volkswagen Golf R: an unexpected drag race with a shocking result
May 31, 2025 by Mat Watson

You might think drag racing the fastest supercar in the world against a Volkswagen Golf R and a BMW M240i is a waste of everyone’s time, but these two cars are far from standard.
Both are pushing over 1,000hp, but can they humble the Prancing Horse? Let’s take a closer look at the stats.
Volkswagen Golf R

Normally the Mk7 Volkswagen Golf R has a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 300hp, but the owner of this car has thrown that away. In its place is a 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine from an Audi RS3.
This has also been heavily modified and tuned to produce a whopping 1,034hp, up from 400hp as standard.
BMW M240i

The BMW does have the basic guts of its standard engine under the bonnet, meaning it has a 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six. It’s been fully built with new internals, a bigger turbo and a strengthened gearbox, meaning it’s now putting out 1,014hp.
That’s 640hp more than the standard M240i, but you wouldn’t know it by looking at this car because the styling is almost completely standard.
Ferrari SF90

The Ferrari SF90 has a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine which is assisted by three electric motors. Two of them drive the front wheels, while the other boosts the engine. The result is 1,000hp, which would usually leave its competitors quaking in their tyres. Not today though.
So can two modified cars really be faster than a flagship Ferrari? You’ll have to watch the video to find out.
