Ferrari SF90 XX vs Koenigsegg Regera: Mat Watson drag races two insane hypercars

If you had told me when I was growing up in Walsall that one day I’d be drag racing more than £3 million worth of hypercars, I’d have laughed at you. But here we are.

Today I’m behind the wheel of the insane Ferrari SF90 XX, and next to me is a Koenigsegg Regera. Two hugely powerful, very special cars, but which is going to be fastest down the quarter mile? Let’s check out the stats.

Ferrari SF90 XX

My Ferrari has a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine and three electric motors. Combined, they put out 1,030hp and 804Nm of torque. This is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox, and the SF90 XX also has launch control.

It weighs in at 1,700kg, and costs around £674,000. That’ll buy you a four bedroom detached house in my home town.

Koenigsegg Regera

The Koenigsegg uses a 5.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine which is running on E85 race fuel, and it’s assisted by three electric motors. All-in it has 1,500hp and 2,000Nm of torque, and this goes to the rear wheels only.

That’ll make it pretty lairy off the line, and the Regera also has a bizarre single-speed transmission which is designed purely for top speed. It’s smaller and lighter than a traditional gearbox, and the whole car only weighs 1,590kg. It’ll also shed plenty of weight from your wallet, because it costs more than £3 million.

So which car will come out on top? On paper, the Koenigsegg should walk this, but in my experience the SF90 is fantastic off the line. Launching the Regera could be tricky with only rear-wheel drive, so this will be a really interesting race.
