Drag race: Lucid Air vs tuned BMW M3

Mat’s taken the wheel of the BMW M3 for this drag race. As standard, it has a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged straight-six with 510hp and 650Nm of torque. That won’t be enough to take down the Lucid though, so we’ve got one which has been fettled by Tom Wrigley Performance. It has a variety of bolt-on performance parts, and a tune, to boost power to 750hp and 900Nm of torque.

There’s no weight penalty for this added performance either, it still tips the scales at 1,780kg. Power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox,  and this tuned M3 will set you back £92,000.

Let’s take a closer look at the competition. The Lucid Air Dream Performance has dual-motors with all-wheel-drive, putting out a whopping 1,111hp and 1,390Nm of torque. That’s a lot of power, but it has to haul a lot of weight at 2,400kg. The Lucid is also a lot more expensive than the M3, fetching an asking price of £190,000.
