KGM Motors Korando Review & Prices

This anonymous-looking SUV is the KGM Motors Korando. It’s basically identical to the old SsangYong Korando - KGM Motors is SsangYong’s new brand name, but despite this change it’s still selling the Korando unchanged from the SsangYong days.

It’s like when you’re asked about a friend’s new haircut. Just nod along and say it looks great, even if you can’t tell the difference from how it was before.

Being just like the old SsangYong Korando has its advantages. The KGM Korando is good value for a car of its size - it’s a proper family-friendly SUV like a Nissan Qashqai or Kia Sportage, but at a price closer to compact SUVs like the Volkswagen T-Cross.

You also get a very practical interior. The Korando has loads of room in the back seats and a 551-litre boot - comparable to bigger cars like the 521-litre Skoda Karoq or 504-litre Nissan Qashqai. Previous models of Korando were particularly popular with caravanners, so it’s good to know this version can tow up to 1.5 tonnes.

At launch it was available with a diesel engine but now there’s just one option - a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol with 163hp. You can have it with either a manual or an automatic gearbox, but neither makes the Korando very fast - or very efficient. CO2 emissions of over 170g/km propel it into the top bracket for company car tax and one of the highest bands for road tax - and even the most efficient models max out at just 36.9mpg.

What you lack in efficiency you get back in equipment. The Korando comes in two trim levels, named K30 and K40, and both come extremely well-kitted out. The K30 model gets an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, as well as posh features like keyless entry and electrically adjustable seats.

For the K40 model, the screen is upgraded to a 9.0-inch system with built-in TomTom navigation. You also get leather seats (heated and ventilated in the front) LED headlights, an electric tailgate and posher alloy wheels.

The K30 car comes at an entry price of £25,595, a few thousand pounds cheaper than similarly-sized alternatives but a little pricier than our favourite small SUVs. The K40 costs from £28,595, which seems steep when you think that the extra equipment over the K30 model isn’t really essential.
