An updated version of the popular Jaguar XE R-Dynamic Black is now on sale, while the sporty trim also makes its way to the larger XF saloon and Sportbrake estate.

The XE is an alternative to the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class, while the bigger XF takes on the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

R-Dynamic Black design

XE

The XE R-Dynamic Black (launched last year for this model) gets an enhanced specification level with a standard panoramic roof and privacy glass to complement the Gloss Black finish on the exterior trim pieces.

The existing choice of metallic finishes, which comprises of Firenze Red, Bluefire, Eiger Grey and Santorini Black, is now joined by the new Ostuni White hue. 19-inch wheels – finished in gloss black, obviously – and red callipers finish off the package.

XF

In addition to the XE’s exterior upgrades, the XF gets its own uniquely styled 19-inch alloys and it can be had in the full-colour palette available to the rest of the trims.

R-Dynamic Black interior

XE

Gloss Grey Figured Ebony is standard on the XE with metal pedals and elegant veneers throughout the cabin.

XF

The more luxurious XF has an interior finished in Satin Charcoal Ash, while the cabin lighting now offers 30 instead of the previous 10 options – this last feature is also available on other XF trims.

Both models will soon receive wireless support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This also applies to the rest of the XE and XF range and will be done by an over-the-air update in the near future.

R-Dynamic Black engine

A 204hp 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine is the sole engine choice for the R-Dynamic Black variants, it comes fitted with an eight-speed automatic transmission and is rear-wheel drive.

Thanks in part to its mild-hybrid (MHEV) system, it is the most efficient engine in the range capable of 58.9 mpg in the XE and 57.6 mpg in the XF. The 0-62mph sprint takes 7.3-seconds in the XE and 7.6-seconds in the XF.
