Everyone loves a Corvette, but can the latest mid-engined version be a match for its European alternatives? Let’s find out.

Let’s look at the Corvette Stingray first. It has a mid-mounted 6.2-litre naturally-aspirated V8 engine, chucking out 482hp and 613Nm of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels only via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox with launch control. It’s heavy compared to the other cars here, coming in at 1,655kg.

Next to line up is the Porsche 911 Carrera. Its rear-mounted 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six engine has 385hp and 450Nm of torque, going to the rear wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The Porsche may be down on power, but it’s also down on weight; tipping the scales at 1,505kg.

Finally, we have the Audi R8 Performance. It’s the rear-wheel-drive version, just to keep thing fair, and has 570hp and 550Nm of torque from its 5.2-litre naturally-aspirated V10. The engine is linked to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox with launch control, and the car weighs in at 1,590kg.

So can the Corvette see off the German competition? You’ll have to watch the video to find out.
