Car changing is a big deal
The new Chery Tiggo 9 is a big, posh seven-seat SUV which goes head-to-head with the Volkswagen Tayron and Hyundai Santa Fe. It may have a few shortcomings, but it stands out in one area in particular.
If you’re after a big seven-seat SUV, there are quite a few routes you could go down. If you want something posh, there’s the Land Rover Discovery and the Volvo XC90. On the more budget-friendly end of the scale you have cars like the Kia Sorento and Skoda Kodiaq.
But what if you want the posh image and luxury features, but don’t want to spend upwards of £60,000 for the privilege? Well this is the Chery Tiggo 9’s time to shine.
Why should you buy a Chery Tiggo 9?
The Tiggo 9 is Chery’s flagship SUV, and it certainly looks posh with its chrome trim and big alloy wheels. You also get over 400hp from the plug-in hybrid engine, and it’ll do a whopping 91 miles on electric power alone.

Unlike a lot of alternatives, there aren’t dozens of pages of optional extras to wade through. The car costs just over £43,000, and you get a shedload of luxurious features as standard.

All cars get adaptive cruise control, heated and ventilated front and rear seats, a panoramic glass roof and double glazing. If you want that sort of spec on a Volvo XC90 then you’ll spend upwards of £75,000.
Lease a Chery Tiggo 9: the biggest reason to get one
You can lease a Chery Tiggo 9 for £423 per month right now, and this is over 48 months with an upfront payment of £5,360 and a mileage limit of 5,000 per year. Need to go further? You can double the mileage limit for an extra £23 per month.
For comparison, the cheapest monthly price we could find for a Kia Sorento was £434 per month, and that car is nowhere near as well-specced as the Chery.
Chery Tiggo 9: What’s the catch?
The Tiggo 9 looks the part and is fantastic value for money, but it’s not perfect. The main gripe we have is with the way it drives, because the suspension is quite wallowy. The steering is also vague, which means you never really have the confidence to exploit all the power through corners.

Some of the interior plastics feel a bit cheap as well. It still feels nice, but it’s not quite as posh as the Audi Q7.
But at this price, it’s quite easy to forgive a few low-rent materials. The Chery Tiggo 9 offers luxury features without the luxury price tag, and that makes it worthy of your cash.
