Drag race: BMW M2 CS vs Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS

November 15, 2025 by

This drag race pits BMW against Porsche. Both the M2 CS and GT4 RS are extreme versions of already quick cars. These two really turn up the heat.

Before we discover which is fastest, let’s compare stats.

Remember, you can buy a brand new or used car right here on Carwow. And you can sell your car, too. We’re here to help you through every step of your car-changing journey.

BMW M2 CS

Any BMW ‘M’ car is special. Add the ‘CS’ letters to the name and you know you are in for a treat.

Short for Competition Special, the CS designation is reserved for M-cars with more power and lower weight than the regular models.

In this case, that means the M2 has 50hp more than standard for 530hp. Power goes to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox. There’s no manual unlike the normal M2, which is a bit of a shame.

There are tweaks to the chassis, which is lower and stiffer than the standard car’s. Carbon fibre parts bring the weight down by 30kg to 1,700kg.

The price? £92,475.

Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS

Lacing up its gloves in the opposite corner is the Cayman GT4 RS.

Just as ‘M’ and ‘CS’ are special letters in BMW’s alphabet, ‘RS’ is revered by Porsche fanatics. Rennsport (racing sport in English) cars are road legal but with racing DNA.

The GT4 RS sits at the top of the Cayman range. The 4.0-litre flat-six has 500hp, so it gives away 30hp to the BMW. It has 450Nm of torque, which is also down on the M2 CS’s 600Nm.

Advantage BMW? Maybe, maybe not. You see the Porsche has a kerbweight of 1,490kg, so it’s 210kg lighter than the BMW.

Factory orders are no longer available but if you can find one the price is £125,500. Don’t be surprised if low-mileage used examples change hands for similar money or even slightly more.

Which is going to win? Does the BMW’s greater power and torque give it the edge or will the Porsche’s lower weight prove decisive? You’ll have to watch this week’s video to find out.
