I raced a 790hp Porsche 911 Carrera T against a GT2 RS to see which is fastest

As Porsche 911 models go, they don’t get much more lairy than the 991 GT2 RS. It’s a stripped-down, rear-wheel drive, track-focussed weapon which required some serious skill to drive to its full potential.

On the other hand, the Carrera T is the baby in the current 911 lineup. It’s designed to be more fun on the road at sensible speeds, but can some tuning make it faster in a drag race than the bad boy GT2? I’m going to find out.

Tuned Porsche 911 Carrera T

The Porsche 911 Carrera T has a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six engine which usually puts out 394hp and 450Nm of torque. However, this car has upgraded turbos, intercoolers, intake and a new titanium exhaust system.

Those changes come together to make 791hp and 813Nm of torque, and this is sent to the rear wheels only via a six-speed manual gearbox. The car weighs in at 1,490kg, and it costs from £115,000. However, all the options and upgrades on this car mean it’s worth £160,000.

Porsche 911 GT2 RS

This 991 generation Porsche 911 GT2 RS is completely standard, meaning it has a 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six engine with 700hp and 750Nm of torque. This drives the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox with launch control.

It tips the scales at 1,470kg, 20kg less than the Carrera T, and when it was new it would’ve cost £229,000. The GT2 RS is a seriously desirable car now though, and this one is worth £400,000 in 2026.

This is going to be a really close race. The Carrera T may be 91hp up on the GT2 RS, but it’s also a bit heavier and the manual gearbox will make it trickier to get off the line quickly.

My money is on the GT2 RS, but you’ll have to watch the video to find out the results.
