Toyota Aygo goes topless with new x-wave convertible roof

Winter may still be upon us but Toyota isn’t going to let that stop it getting ready for summer. The Japanese marque has revealed its Aygo x-wave which, like its sister cars the Citroen C1 Airscape, Peugeot 108 TOP and rival Renault Twingo, is available as a convertible.

The roof is a folding fabric affair and, unlike more involved convertibles, rolls along metal roof rails and stows away at the back of the car. The fact it still has a metal body and only loses the roof panel rather than the whole roof means it’s lighter and more rigid than a standard drop-top.

The x-wave roof is a £895 option and can only be fitted to x-pression trims meaning it joins standard alloy wheels, fog lights, air conditioning, LED daytime running lights, and a Bluetooth and DAB radio-ready infotainment system with an integrated reversing camera.

Tempted to go topless?

The x-wave roof can be ordered now but, before you put money down, check out our review of the Aygo’s sister cars – the Peugeot 108 TOP and the Citroen C1 Airscape, and its arch-rival the Renault Twingo.
