About Denza cars

Denza is a premium brand owned by Chinese automotive giant BYD. It may be a new name to British buyers, but it has been around since 2010, when it was founded as a joint venture between BYD and Mercedes parent company, Daimler.

The company is now wholly owned by BYD, which is one of the world’s biggest manufacturers of electric and plug-in hybrid cars. Denza has been positioned above the regular BYD brand, with a greater focus on luxury, high-end technology and standout design.

Denza’s UK line-up is set to begin with three very different models. The Z9GT is a large, low-slung shooting brake available with either electric or plug-in hybrid power in Europe, while the D9 is a luxury seven-seat people carrier designed to offer business-class comfort. The B5 is a large plug-in hybrid SUV with serious off-road ability.

Denza is aiming for buyers who might otherwise look at a high-spec Mercedes, BMW, Porsche or Lexus.

Yes, Denza launched in the UK in mid-2026. Its first models were the Z9GT shooting brake, D9 luxury MPV and B5 plug-in hybrid SUV.
Denza is a premium brand rather than a traditional luxury marque. It is positioned above BYD, with more expensive cars, more advanced technology and plusher interiors, but it does not yet have the long-established image of brands such as Mercedes, BMW or Porsche. 
Denza was founded in 2010 as a joint venture between BYD and Daimler, which was Mercedes-Benz’s parent company at the time. It is now wholly owned by BYD. 
Denza has not yet confirmed UK pricing for the Z9GT. It is expected to be a high-end electric and plug-in hybrid alternative to cars such as the Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo and Porsche Panamera, so don’t expect it to be priced like a regular BYD.
