Head of social media Will Davis is living with the 333hp Cupra Formentor for six months. With a price tag of almost £60,000 it’s quite expensive, but here’s how you can get similar performance for a lot less cash

This is my new Cupra Formentor, and I’m about a month into my six-month stint with this sporty, small SUV. It’s made a good first impression, with the snazzy carbon fibre front seats and matte bronze paint really taking my fancy.

It’s also stupidly fast, thanks to a 333hp engine from a Golf R sending the Formentor from 0-60mph in under five seconds. The only fly in the ointment is the price, because this car costs almost £60,000 with a few options fitted.

If that sounds a bit rich for you, there is a way to get similar performance and styling for half the price. Check out this deal on a used Cupra Formentor.

Remember, you can buy a brand new or used car right here on Carwow. And you can sell your car, too. We’re here to help you through every step of your car-changing journey.

Used Cupra Formentor deals

This is a 2024 Cupra Formentor with less than 30,000 miles on the clock, and it’s up for sale for £28,500. That’s around half the price of my car, and it has a similar engine.

Under the bonnet is a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 310hp. That may be 13hp less than the new Formentor, but it’s only one tenth of a second slower to 60mph. It’s still properly rapid.

I also reckon the pre-facelift car looks a bit better. The updated model has a bit of an underbite at the front, whereas the slim grille on the previous model makes it look more aggressive.

You may not get the carbon fibre bucket seats, but this car does still have heated leather seats, cruise control, a reversing camera and a heated steering wheel. It’s a lot of car for the money.

What’s the Cupra Formentor like to live with?

In short, it’s rather good. Despite its sporty characteristics, the suspension still does a good job of soaking up bumps in the road. A Volkswagen T-Roc R is a touch more comfortable, but it’s not as fun to drive as the Cupra.

If you’re looking for a more spacious coupe-SUV, a BMW X2 is a better bet. The Cupra does have decent rear legroom and a good-sized boot, but it’s not ideal if you need to ferry adults in the back on a regular basis.

The infotainment system in the Formentor is bright and responsive, and the menus are pretty easy to navigate as well. I’d like to have a few more physical buttons, but it’s not too hard to operate things like your climate control through the screen.

If you’re after a stylish, sporty, quick and comfortable small SUV, the Cupra Formentor is a great choice. Whether you buy a new one, or save some cash and buy one second hand, you won’t be disappointed.
