The latest BMW X1 crossover is here to take on the Audi Q3 and Range Rover Evoque. It’s based on an extended version of the platform found in the Mini hatchback meaning less interior space is given over to running gear than before.
We’ve pulled together all its key measurements to help you decide if it’ll fit into your life. Visit our BMW X1 deals page to see how much carwow could help you save on your next new car.
Thanks to the new platform, the X1 is now 53mm taller than before, wider by 23mm but shorter in length by 38mm. This means it’ll be much easier to parallel park with increased visibility accompanied with the shorter overall length.
|Width including door mirrors||2,067mm|
As you’d expect, with the body’s 53mm of extra height, passengers get more headroom and thanks to the new platform, the A-pillars have moved forward by 15mm giving front occupants even more room and better visibility.
Though the X1 is 38mm shorter than the previous model, it has gained 66mm more legroom for rear seat occupants. You can increase this further with the optional sliding rear bench.
The X1’s boot is now 85-litres better off over its predecessor measuring 505-litres in total. With the seats folded flat, the space available now measures at 1,550-litres – an increase of 200-litres over the previous model.
|Rear seats up||505 litres|
|Rear seats folded||1,550 litres|
Fuel tank capacity
The X1’s 2.0-litre petrol can cover between 611 and 621 miles depending on which size wheels are specified (smaller wheels are more efficient). Diesels range from 729 to 882 miles.
With an 11-metre turning circle, the X1 is pretty agile for a cumbersome SUV. Four-wheel-drive systems usually increase the turning circle but not in this new X1, which is a great achievement.
|Turning circle||11 metres|
Weight and towing limits
Specific towing figures are yet to be revealed but, considering the engines are similar to the previous X1 – we expect roughly the same 2,000kg braked towing weight as its predecessor.
The new X1 is up to 135kg lighter than the model it replaces thanks to some clever weight-saving measures from BMW’s engineers.
