Car changing is a big deal
The cash price of this car might not be quite as low as we’d expected, but it’s still really cheap to finance. Here’s why you should think about ordering a new Tesla Model Y Standard.
The new Tesla Model Y Standard has just gone on sale in the UK, and it’s a more basic version which loses a few key features to knock £3,000 off the starting price. It may not be as cheap as it is in Europe or North America, but it’s still a bit of a bargain.
This is especially the case if you buy through PCP finance, because it costs less than most alternatives. For a full rundown on this car’s specs and features, check out our story on the Model Y Standard. Here’s a quick summary.
Why should you consider the Tesla Model Y Standard?
The main draw to this car is the price. At £41,990, it’s a few thousand pounds cheaper than an Audi Q4 e-tron or a Volvo EX40, but it offers more interior space and standard equipment.

You get power seats, a large central touchscreen, adaptive cruise control and up to 314 miles of range. It’s a competitive package at this price.
We’ve not driven the Model Y Standard just yet – the first cars will be hitting UK shores any day now. The normal Model Y is brilliant to drive, and we see no reason this Standard version should be any different. It is slightly slower, but 0-60mph still takes a respectable 6.9 seconds.

The Model Y is also a hugely spacious car. You get a cavernous boot with 854 litres of space when stacked to the roof, and there’s a big front boot as well. Rear legroom is palatial, and the Standard also gets a more practical centre console with a big storage bin for a bag.
Tesla Model Y Standard: why you should buy this car on PCP
Tesla is offering 0% APR on the Model Y Standard when you buy using PCP finance. This means if you put down a £7,400 deposit you can pay just £323 per month over four years. And you get a generous mileage limit of 10,000 per year.
An Audi Q4 e-tron will cost you over £100 per month more on similar terms, and the basic version of that car won’t go as far on a charge either.
Tesla Model Y Standard alternatives
The Model Y Standard is shaping up to be a great car, but there are still a few alternatives you’ll want to consider. Here are three for you to ponder.
Audi Q4 e-tron

The Q4 e-tron may be more expensive to buy than the Tesla, but through Carwow there are average savings of over £6,000 up for grabs right now bringing it in line with the Model Y.
The Audi has a lovely interior and it’s really comfortable to drive, it’s just not quite as spacious as the Tesla and you have to upgrade to more expensive models to match the range.
Kia EV6

We love the Kia EV6 because it’s great to drive and offers loads of tech for the money. It’s also a great-looking car, with more distinctive styling than the Tesla, and it has a lovely interior as well.
It’s around £3,000 more expensive than the Tesla, but have a look at deals on Carwow and you can save an average of over £8,000 at the time of writing. That makes it look even more tempting.
Peugeot E-3008

If you’re looking for the most stylish EV for your money, it’s hard to ignore the Peugeot E-3008. It looks fantastic on the outside, and it has an interior to match. The cabin quality can also match any expensive German car.
Prices start from £46,000, so quite a bit more than the Model Y Standard. Buy through Carwow and you can pick one up for just £37,000 at the time of writing.
