This car is good value at full price, but huge discounts are available through Carwow.

This famous British name is now thriving under Chinese ownership. I’m talking about MG, of course, and the HS is one of its most popular models.

It may be made in China, but much of the design and engineering still takes place in Britain. For many buyers that’s a big plus over MG’s keenly priced Chinese alternatives.

Remember, you can buy a brand new or used car right here on Carwow. And you can sell your car, too. We’re here to help you through every step of your car-changing journey.

Buy the MG HS for £27,095*

Just £27,095 is enough to buy an HS 1.5 T-GDI PHEV Trophy. That saves an amazing £7,650 from the list price.

I reckon you will save at the fuel pumps, too, as this plug-in hybrid model is capable of 75 miles running on electricity in official tests.

The Trophy is the higher of the two available specifications, and comes with heated front seats, a powered tailgate, a 360° parking camera, wireless phone charging and dual-zone climate control.

Why should you buy an MG HS?

The HS is a very good family SUV, especially the plug-in hybrid. One of its biggest strengths is the excellent all-electric range. There’s also plenty of space inside whether you are sat in the front or the back, and the car has lots of room for luggage too.

Although the hybrid is quite a quick car, it’s not very exciting to drive. Blame the oddly weighted steering and soggy suspension. I find the infotainment frustrating and fiddly as well.

These complaints aside there’s an awful lot to like about the MG HS.

MG HS alternatives

If a £7k saving doesn’t seal the deal, consider one of these three alternatives.

  • Ford Puma: If you want a family-friendly SUV that’s fun to drive, the Ford Puma is hard to beat. It’s less roomy than the MG, though.
  • Nissan Qashqai: Although the Nissan Qashqai is not as cheap as the MG, it’s a very solid all-round buy.
  • Omoda 5: The Omoda 5 is another Chinese made SUV. It’s even cheaper than the HS, but not as roomy.
