About the Cupra

Cupra started out as a sporty sub-brand of Seat – the Spanish equivalent of GTI or even AMG – but now it’s a car company all of its own, with a focus on high-performance and electric models (even if you can still buy fairly basic versions with plain old petrol engines).

Cupra now mostly makes SUVs, with the recently-launched Terramar sitting alongside the electric Tavascan, the compact Formentor, and the older Ateca (yes, the one that’s a Seat too, although in Cupra form it comes only with 300hp and four-wheel drive). There’s also a Cupra Leon, based on the Seat hatchback but now with unique styling, and there’s the all-electric Born hatchback, which shares a lot with the VW ID3.

All Cupras get copper-coloured detailing inside and out, and the plug-in hybrid models – Formentor, Terramar, and Leon – can achieve up to 75 miles on electric power alone. The most fun Cupra models are the high-performance VZ versions, especially the 330hp four-wheel drive Leon Sportstourer estate.

Why lease a Cupra?

Leasing a Cupra is a good idea as the brand is still finding its feet a little, which means residual values aren’t quite as firm as they would be for an equivalent VW or Skoda. Leasing doesn’t quite protect you from depreciation, but it lessens the impact of depreciation on your pocket a little as it’s all absorbed into the monthly payments.
