Litchfield’s tuned Toyota GR Yaris comes face-to-face with a factory-fresh car. Does its £640 upgrade package really make a difference? Watch to find out…
The Toyota GR Yaris has caused a real stir amongst petrolheads since arriving on the market last year.
This rally-bred hot hatch has quickly become one of the most talked-about cars around, and it’s easy to see why. Yaris in name only, it packs a mighty punch courtesy of a 1.6-litre, turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine producing 261hp and 360Nm of torque.
All that is sent through a clever all-wheel-drive system that propels the dinky hatch from 0-60mph in 5.3 seconds before reaching a 142mph top speed. It’s a seriously impressive package — so much so that it was named 2021 carwow Car of The Year.
What if you just want it to be a little faster, though? Well, tuning company Litchfield has you covered thanks to an upgrade kit that boosts power to 305hp and torque to 390Nm.
That’s managed with a reworked electronic control unit plus a new air filter. It’s not overly expensive too, as it’ll set you back £640.
It’s all good boosting numbers on paper but, in reality, does it take the GR Yaris to a new level? Well, that’s what today’s drag race aims to find out.
