The Audi RS e-tron GT and the Audi R8 – two very different, yet similarly speedy cars.
On one hand, you have a seriously cutting-edge electric saloon with the pace to rival a ballistic missile and on the other, a do-it-all sports car with one of the sweetest engines around.
Both are examples of, when given some creative freedom, the kind of performance that Audi can deliver.
The question though, which is quickest? Well, that’s what today’s drag race looks to find out.
Powering the Audi RS e-tron GT is an 86kWh battery pack paired up to two electric motors that produce 646hp and 830Nm of torque when launch control is engaged. That’s sent to all four wheels with the help of a two-speed automatic gearbox.
That does make it the most powerful road car Audi has ever made, though those batteries do make it heavy. The RS e-tron GT tips the scales at 2,347kg.
The Audi R8 is down on power comparatively, with its 5.2-litre V10 producing 620hp and 580Nm of torque in Performance guise. Its grunt is delivered to all four wheels too, albeit through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
It’s a lot lighter than the RS e-tron GT though, at 1,640kg. Will prove to be the killer difference in this drag race? You’ll need to watch to find out…
