It seems an odd battle on the face of it but, all-in both are roughly around the £75,000 mark.
This fresh-out-the-factory BMW M3 Competition is powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight-six producing 510hp and 650Nm of torque, sent to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
It tips the scales at 1,570kg though, a fair bit more than the S15’s 1,240kg weigh-in.
The engine on this Nissan Silvia S15 has received a ballistic level of upgrades. Normally. Its SR20DET would be a 2.0-litre capacity block and be good for about 250hp.
This has been bored out to a 2.1-litre unit, and slapped with a host of changes including a turbo large enough to swallow the ozone layer. The result is 600hp and 700Nm, sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox.
Will its old-school tech be able to take the overhauled S15 to glory, or will the M3 rack up another carwow drag race win? Watch on to find out…
