What do you get when you put together two cars with 490hp and 660Nm of torque? Today’s drag race, of course.
Those are the figures from the Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 and Tesla Model 3 Performance we have here today. But will petrol or electric power prevail today?
In standard from the Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 would get 420hp and 590Nm of torque from its 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, although an £800 tune sees it match the Tesla for power output.
It sends its grunt to all four wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
In contrast, the Tesla produces the same amount of power from two electric motors, with one on each axle.
Now you may be thinking that the instant power delivery of the Tesla would give it a clear advantage and, if both cars weighed the same, you’d be undoubtedly right.
However, the Model 3 carries a fair bit of heft over the AMG — coming in at 1,847kg and 1,675kg respectively.
Which wins, then? You’ll need to watch to find out…
