Why should you consider the Ford Explorer?
The Ford Explorer is a large, electric family SUV that looks and feels modern, while also offering a classy and high-tech cabin, as well as lots of range. Yes, rear legroom is not especially generous, and the boot is smaller than those of some alternatives, but it’s still a pretty practical thing that feels more expensive than its price tag suggests.
Particularly appealing is the huge touchscreen infotainment system, which slides up to reveal a handy cubby hole, but there’s clever tech under the skin, too. A selection of battery sizes are available with capacities between 52kWh and 79kWh, while 170hp, 286hp and 340hp versions are also on offer. And there are all-wheel-drive versions, too.
That means the most efficient Extended Range models claim up to 374 miles of range between charges, and rapid charging at up to 185kW is available. The Explorer is also fast in a straight line, with more than enough power from all its motors, and it’s decent to drive. It isn’t especially exciting in the corners, and the suspension can get a bit firm, but it’s refined on the motorway and it handles more sharply than the Volkswagen ID4 which it shares parts with.
Lease a Ford Explorer from £332 a month
You can lease a Ford Explorer from £331.84 a month (initial payment: £4,322.02) on a 48-month, 5,000-mile-per-year deal through Carwow.
