Jaecoo, Omoda and Chery: every model in the UK ranked

Car changing is a big deal
Jaecoo, Omoda and Chery are three of the fastest-growing Chinese brands in the UK right now, and they’re all part of the same family. But which models are worth your cash? We’ve driven them all, and here is our definitive ranking.
Chinese cars are becoming a much more common sight on UK roads, and there are few brands which have exploded in popularity like the ones from Chery International. This is the company which sells Omoda, Chery and Jaecoo models, and between these brands it sold more than 53,600 cars in the UK in 2025. That’s 10,000 more cars than Tesla managed to shift.
Choosing between Omoda, Jaecoo and Chery models can be tricky though. They all have similar names, share mechanical parts and they’re lined up next to each other in showrooms. So which models should you consider? Well we’ve driven all the cars available in the UK from these brands, and we’ve ranked them all from best to worst.

1. Chery Tiggo 8 – our Car Of The Year for 2026
The Chery Tiggo 8 is by far the best car you can buy from these three brands – it’s so good in fact that we have awarded it Car Of The Year for 2026. No other model launched this year offers this much space, equipment and quality for less than £29,000.
It has seven seats, loads of rear legroom and the interior feels posh enough to put some German luxury brands to shame. It’s not as nice to drive as something like a Volkswagen Tayron, but at this price it’s more than good enough.
2. Chery Tiggo 7 – A bargain family SUV
When deputy reviews editor Tom Wiltshire tested the Chery Tiggo 7, he said it made expensive alternatives look silly. The hybrid model is quiet and refined on the motorway, and it’s economical too.
You also get plenty of interior space, and the cabin feels really well-built. You’ll want to avoid the noisy and inefficient petrol engine, but even the PHEV model starts from under £30,000 with bags of standard kit.
3. Jaecoo E5 – A cheap and cheerful electric SUV
Next up we have the Jaecoo E5, which is a solid choice if you’re after an electric SUV with rugged, Range Rover-esque styling. It starts from just £27,500, making it cheaper than a mid-spec Vauxhall Corsa Electric, and you get luxury features like adaptive cruise control and a surround-view camera as standard.
It’s not as good to drive as something like a Skoda Elroq thanks to numb steering and jiggly suspension, and the 248-mile claimed range is nothing to shout about either. Still, at least the cabin is nice and roomy and you get a responsive infotainment system.
4. Chery Tiggo 9 – Fast and roomy, but a tad too expensive
The Tiggo 9 is the poshest and most expensive Chery model you can buy, and it does have a bit going for it. The 430hp hybrid system makes it ballistically fast, and it can deliver up to 91 miles of pure electric range.
You also get a shedload of kit and a roomy interior, but it feels a bit wayward to drive. At £43,105 it’s hard to see why you’d choose this over the Tiggo 8. It may not be as fast, but it’s very nearly as spacious as the Tiggo 9 and costs £10,000 less.
5. Omoda 9 – posh inside and ludicrously fast, but not great to drive
The Omoda 9 is by far the fastest car on this list. The hybrid engine puts out a whopping 450hp, and it’ll do 0-60mph in just 4.9 seconds. That sounds great, but the suspension isn’t even close to being up to the job of handling all that power.
It pitches and wallows about through corners, and there is almost no feeling through the super-light steering either. It does make a good motorway cruiser though, and the interior is spacious and really well-made for the money.
6. Jaecoo 7 – hugely popular thanks to the styling and price
The Jaecoo 7 has been something of a smash hit for the brand since it landed in the UK last year. It’s appeared in the top 10 best-selling cars in both October and November, and it’s pretty easy to see why.
For a smidge over £30,000 you get faux-Range Rover styling, a nice interior and loads of kit. A recurring theme with these cars is the lacklustre driving experience, and this is what lets the Jaecoo 7 down. It’s just not as comfortable as something like a Citroen C5 Aircross.
7. Omoda E5 – Affordable and well-equipped, but not very practical
Under the skin the Omoda E5 is actually very similar to the Jaecoo E5. It’s similarly well-equipped, but at just over £33,000 it is more expensive. It’s also not as practical as the Jaecoo thanks to cramped rear seats and a pretty small boot.
On a more positive note, the Omoda does look a bit more distinctive than the Jaecoo E5, and it’s adequate to drive. You also get 267 miles of range which, while still not up there with the best EVs, is still more than the Jaecoo can manage.
8. Jaecoo 5 – The E5’s petrol-powered counterpart
The Jaecoo 5 is basically just an E5 with a 1.6-litre petrol engine in place of the electric motor. It has similar styling, equipment and space, but there’s one main problem with it which causes it to rank much lower.
That engine simply isn’t very good. It’s noisy when you put your foot down, the gearbox is dimwitted and jerky and it’s not very fuel efficient either. It is cheap though, costing a shade over £24,500, so this might be enough for you to forgive it.
9. Omoda 5 – Has its merits, but is overshadowed by its siblings
The Omoda 5 was actually the first model from Chery International to come to UK shores, and it looks pretty tempting on paper. For just £24,000 you get a shedload of equipment and a powerful engine, but once you drive it the cracks start to show.
That engine is pretty thirsty, and the high emissions make it quite expensive to tax as well. It’s also cramped in the rear seats, and the infotainment system is a faff to use. You may be better off looking at the Jaecoo 5 instead, or perhaps an MG HS.
