This is the updated Land Rover Defender. It may look exactly the same as before on the outside, but it’s been given some upgrades to the interior as well as a new diesel engine with more power.

New Land Rover Defender interior upgrades

The big change for the new Defender can be found inside with the addition of the Signature Interior Pack, a suite of upgrades to make this off-roader feel more luxurious. This comes as standard on range-topping models, and it’s a £3,000 optional extra on mid-spec cars.

New Land Rover Defender front seats

Up front you get 14-way electrically adjustable seats, and you get heated and cooled chairs in both the front and middle row. Go for the seven-seat 110 or 130 model and even those in the very back get heated seats.

You also get softer leather on the seats for a bit of added tactility, and the signature dashboard cross bar is finished in metallic grey. The rest of the trim accents are satin black and chrome to complete the look.

New Land Rover Defender rear seats

For ultimate rear seat comfort, the long-wheelbase 130 model is also now available with individual captains chairs in the middle row. These are heated and cooled, and you get individual armrests for added comfort.

New Land Rover Defender Sedona edition

The Land Rover Defender’s iconic design may have stayed the same, but there is now a new Sedona Edition, only available on the 110, which gets some unique styling features.

New Land Rover Defender Sedona Edition rear

The most notable is the deep red paintwork, which is meant to mimic the sandstone landforms near Sedona in Arizona. Complementing this is an extended Black Pack, meaning you get blacked-out badges, front grille and skid plates as well as gloss black 22-inch alloy wheels.

New Land Rover Defender Sedona Edition bonnet

In addition to this, you can also opt for a unique decal on the bonnet and you get a Sedona Red side-mounted gear carrier to keep wet and muddy clothing and equipment away from your posh leather.

New Land Rover Defender engine upgrades

The only change to be found under the bonnet of the new Land Rover Defender is the addition of a new diesel engine.

New Land Rover Defender front

The 3.0-litre straight-six D300 oil-burner has been replaced with the D350. It’s the same sized engine, but it now puts out 350hp and 700Nm of torque. That’s an increase of 50hp and 50Nm which should make towing heavy loads feel even more effortless.

New Land Rover Defender price and release date

The upgraded Land Rover Defender is available to order now, with prices starting from £60,470 for the 110 and £81,585 for the longer 130 model. That makes it a few thousand pounds more expensive than before, but it’s still over £70,000 cheaper than a Mercedes G-Class.

That said, you have to step up to the X-Dynamic HSE if you want the option of the Signature interior pack, and even then it’s a near £3,000 option. You do get it as standard on range-topping cars and the Sedona Edition though.
