Xpeng Cars New and Used Xpeng Models, Prices & Reviews

Xpeng’s not just a good score in Scrabble, it’s another new Chinese car brand, specialising in electric cars, which is now arriving in the UK to take on the likes of Tesla. Initially it’s launching with the G6 SUV — a direct alternative to the Tesla Model Y — but there’s lots more to come from Xpeng, including a massive people carrier and a sleek four-door saloon.

About XPeng

Xpeng — which is technically pronounced shao-peng, but no-one’s really going to mind if you pronounce it with an X — is technically a sub-brand of the bigger Guangzhou Xiaopeng Motors Technology Company. The company was only founded in 2014, and its first car — the G3 SUV — only went on sale in 2018. Things move fast in China…

So fast that Xpeng wants to be taken seriously as a premium player, and an alternative not merely to Tesla, but to the likes of Audi, BMW, and the pricier VW electric models. It may have a way to go yet before anyone in the UK considers a Chinese brand they’ve never heard of ‘premium’ but the engineering and quality levels of the current G6 certainly get Xpeng off to a good start.

Eventually, the G6 will be joined by other electric models such as the X9 seven-seat MPV, the G9 SUV, and the P7 saloon. There’s also a bigger P5 saloon, and a compact G3i small SUV.

Xpeng is trying to find room for itself in an increasingly crowded electric car market, and one of its big Chinese competitors — BYD — already has its feet under the table in the UK. That makes Xpeng’s task of standing out a bit harder, but big things are expected…

What our car expert says

“The Xpeng G6’s interior is a rather lovely place to sit, with plenty of plush materials and solid build quality making it feel like a premium product.”

XPeng cars FAQs

Yes, Xpeng has launched in the UK. There's just one model available to begin with – the G6 SUV – but other vehicles will come in time. Expect existing models sold in China, such as the X9, G9 and P7, to join the UK line-up.
Perhaps not luxury, but certainly posh and premium. It is pitching its range of cars as alternatives to established European brands such as BMW, Mercedes and Audi, rather than more mainstream manufacturers.
It’s a little early to tell. The G6 is reasonably good, certainly high tech, but rather dull to drive. Hopefully future Xpeng models will be more sharp behind the wheel.
In the UK, Xpeng offers a seven-year, 100,000-mile warranty and a further eight-year, 100,000-mile warranty for the battery.
XPeng recommends a service every 12 months or 12,000 miles, and a more intensive, major service every two years or 25,000 miles.
The G6 is Xpeng’s mid-sized all-electric SUV, and it’s directly comparable to the likes of the Tesla Model Y and the Skoda Enyaq Coupe
The G6’s official range varies from 270 miles to 354 miles depending on the model and the battery size. For a realistic daily driving figure, reckon on around 220 miles for the smaller-battery version, and 300 miles for the big battery.
