Could the Chevrolet Corvette be going hybrid? If these spyshots are to go by, it might be happening — and pretty soon.

This is thought to be the Corvette E-Ray hybrid, which would serve as a lower-cost alternative to the Honda NSX and McLaren Artura sports cars.

2023 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray hybrid design

You can’t tell too much about the Corvette E-Ray with all the camouflage, but it looks to have the slightly wider body of the recently-teased Z06 variant of the sports car.

It probably won’t look quite so aggressive as that car though, and may even take the place the Grand Sport held as a more touring-focused version of the Corvette in previous generations.

2023 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray hybrid engine and performance

It’s expected that the 6.2-litre ‘LT2’ V8 of the current Corvette C8 will remain in the E-Ray, albeit with the addition of an electric motor on the front axle.

Thus, you’re looking at the first all-wheel-drive, hybrid Corvette on the platform that became the first mid-engined version of the car. How’s that for tearing up the history books?

Power should be pretty appropriate for a Corvette though, with up to 650hp possible. If it’s a plug-in, you’ll even get a little bit of electric-only range too.

2023 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray hybrid price and release date

It’s expected that the Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray hybrid will go on sale late in 2022, and will more likely arrive in the UK in 2023.

In case you didn’t know already, this is the first Corvette generation you can get as a right-hand drive car. Expect this upcoming hybrid to cost north of £100,000, though.
