Jaguar’s new electric GT car – a four-door based on the Type 00 concept from last year – has been spotted testing. But what’s been happening at Jaguar recently? Read on to find out.

Jaguar has been undergoing a complete transformation over the past few months after a controversial rebrand. It’s also stopped making new cars entirely as it gears up for an all-electric future.

And that future will begin with this: an electric luxury saloon based on the Type 00 concept from December 2024. The production car has been spotted testing ahead of a full reveal in 2026.

Remember, you can buy a brand new or used car right here on Carwow. And you can sell your car, too. We’re here to help you through every step of your car-changing journey.

What the hell is going on at Jaguar?

The simple answer is a lot. Jaguar is going through a major transition at the moment as it stops making petrol-engined sports cars, saloons and SUVs and moves towards fully electric luxury models.

It underwent a full rebrand at the end of 2024 which certainly caused a stir. There was an exuberant new advertising campaign which split opinions, with a lot of people saying Jaguar was alienating its core fanbase.

In the months that followed you may have seen reports of Jaguar’s sales plummeting, and those same naysayers took to social media to blame Jaguar’s new image for this decline. But the rebrand is not to blame as many seem to think, the explanation is actually far more simple.

Jaguar has stopped making new cars as it gears up to launch its new lineup of posh EVs, so of course sales numbers have dropped. You can’t sell cars if you don’t make them. There are a handful of new Jaguar I-Pace and F-Pace models in stock through Carwow, but beyond that you’ll have to check out used deals if you want a Jag on your driveway.

New Jaguar Type 00: the first all-new Jaguar model in seven years

At around the same time as the controversial rebrand, Jaguar also launched an equally polarising concept car called the Type 00. It may have raised some eyebrows, but it’s definitely not boring.

It almost looks like the sort of thing a cartoon villain would drive. If 101 Dalmatians is up for a remake anytime soon, we’ve found Cruella De Vil’s car. The bonnet would be considered long if there was a whopping V12 engine under it, but with no engine on board it’s purely a stylistic choice.

Moving to the rear things get even more wacky. One of Jaguar’s new catch phrases is “Copy nothing”, but it copied the Polestar 4 here by doing away with the rear window.

The Type 00 is just a concept car, but in 2026 a production EV will be revealed with design elements from this car, and it’ll be the first all-new Jaguar model since the I-Pace launched back in 2018. It’ll be a four-door saloon rather than a two-door coupe, and our spy photographers have spotted it out on the road.

It has a similarly upright front end to the Type 00, and you can just about see the slim headlights poking through the wrap. The black mesh around the grille also suggests that it won’t be completely sealed-off like it was on the Type 00 concept.

Moving to the side and you can immediately see that this is a lot longer than the car we saw last year, which makes sense seeing as it has an extra pair of doors. There does seem to be a slightly different rear end though, because it looks more like a traditional three-box saloon rather than a swoopy coupe.

New Jaguar Type 00 batteries and motors

Underneath that radical bodywork is an all-new collection of EV parts which are collectively called the “Jaguar Electric Architecture”. There are minimal details on exact specs for now, but the motors and batteries will be unique to Jaguar.

This means there will be no parts sharing with the forthcoming Range Rover EV. Jaguar has confirmed that it’ll have 478 miles of range, and it’ll be able to charge quickly enough to gain 200 miles of range in 15 minutes.

As for power, you can expect to see a dual motor setup giving the car all-wheel drive, however exact figures are yet to be nailed down. Being a luxury car of this size you can expect more than 500hp on tap, however you’ll have to wait for the production car to be revealed to find out for sure.

When can I buy the new Jaguar Type 00?

While you won’t be able to buy the Type 00, the production car it inspires should be revealed in 2026. You may not see it on the road until 2027 though, and you can expect a price tag of well over £100,000.
