A new Audi S4 Avant will be shown to the public at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show following the launch of the S4 Saloon at Frankfurt in 2015. These sporty executive cars, based on the current A4 and A4 Avant estate, will get serious performance enhancements including a turbocharged engine, four-wheel drive and a quick-shifting automatic gearbox to compete with the BMW 340i, Jaguar XE S and Mercedes C450 AMG.
New Audi S4 styling
Numerous subtle changes will help customers distinguish the new S4 from the identically proportioned A4. Both sport handsome and understated designs but selected aluminium trim pieces and an aggressive rear diffuser with quad exhaust tips point to the hint at the increased performance of the S4.
Unique 18-inch alloy wheels will give both the saloon and the estate a planted look, especially in profile. Drivers looking for even more outlandish swollen arches and even larger wheels will have to wait for upcoming RS4 model.
New Audi S4 interior
The leather and Alcantara clad interior of the S4 will seat four adult passengers comfortably and five at a pinch. The attractive brushed aluminium trim from the regular A4 has been carried over into the new S4’s cabin but the carbon fibre effect dashboard panel is unique to the model.
An infotainment system with an 8.3-inch screen and sat-nav functions will be controlled by the latest version of Audi’s MMI interface. A new feature is ‘Audi connect’ a personal wifi hotspot that will allow passengers to connect to the internet on the move.
The brilliant Audi Virtual Cockpit digital instrument cluster will probably be standard on the new S4. This is a 12.3-inch display that replaces the more conventional instruments and is configurable to show a larger sat-nav map and smaller dials or larger dials for more spirited driving.
New Audi S4 performance
The turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine in the S4 can launch it to 62mph from rest in just 4.7 seconds thanks to an impressive power output of 354hp. This represents an improvement of more than half-a-second compared to the outgoing model. Not only is the S4 ferociously fast but, thanks to this new engine, it’s capable of 38mpg.
The eight-speed automatic gearbox provides quick and responsive changes in all conditions, but there’s clever technology here, too – whenever the driving conditions allow, the car switches to a free-wheeling mode to save petrol and produce fewer emissions. The permanent all-wheel drive on the S4 is now a clever adaptable system that sends more power to the front or rear wheels depending on driving style and conditions.
New Audi S4 suspension
The S4 sits 23mm lower than the standard A4, making it look more purposeful. Thanks to a newly developed suspension setup, the S4 is more than capable of handling all kinds of driving conditions. The driver can also choose between a number of suspension modes to get the best performance in all weather conditions.
New Audi S4 price
There’s no official price yet, but it has been reported that the S4 will cost slightly less than £47,000 and the S4 Avant approximately £48,000. Adding the automatic gearbox could increase the price by around £1,500.
New Audi S4 release date
Audi hasn’t announced an official date yet, but we expect the order books to open in early 2016 with deliveries closer to the summer.
