  • McMurtry Spéirling Pure revealed,
  • 1,000hp, track-only special
  • Updated version of the bonkers Spéirling fan car
  • 100 set for production, pricing from £820,000 before taxes
  • Orders now open, with deliveries to begin in 2025

This is the McMurtry Spéirling Pure, an updated version of the absolute bonkers Spéirling – offering 1,000hp, an upgraded fan system and numerous chassis tweaks.

You may remember the Spéirling from melting Mat’s face in a spell-binding quarter-mile run last year, following on from a record run up the Goodwood hill climb a few months prior. Well now, with the Pure, you can have one of your own – providing you’ve got the cash, of course.

New McMurtry Spéirling Pure design and chassis

Little has changed about the looks of the McMurtry Spéirling with this new Pure version. It still retains that tiny, toy-like profile with a stubby wheelbase and narrow body – albeit with a new set of wheels.

The real changes go beyond the looks. Most notably, the fan system that sucks the car to the ground has been revised for a 15% increase in efficiency, and a 14% drop in weight. These tweaks, along with various other chassis revisions, help keep the weight of this production-ready Spéirling under 1,000kg.

It’s sure to offer ever more performance as a result, though the good news is you’ll be able to spec ABS now too, for improved driveability.

New McMurtry Spéirling Pure motors and performance

The McMurtry Spéirling Pure still utilises two electric motors on the rear axle, combining to produce 1,000hp. Though an official 0-60mph hasn’t been published (for reference, Mat managed a mind-boggling 1.4 seconds), new gearing allows the Pure to head on to a 190mph top speed.

Power is drawn from a 60kWh battery, which is said to be rechargeable in just 20 minutes. Being a track-only car, there’s no official range figure, though McMurtry says the Pure will be capable of “10 laps of Silverstone National at lap record pace” before needing to be topped up again.

How much does the new McMurtry Spéirling Pure cost?

Orders are now being taken for the McMurtry Spéirling Pure, with pricing from £820,000 before taxes. Get your name down now, and you can expect the car to be delivered anytime from 2025.

Just 100 are set to be made, and a prototype car will (rather fittingly) be on display at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed if you fancy taking a look.
