Let’s start with the Audi RS Q8. It has a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine with 600hp and 800nm of torque. This is fed to all four wheels through an 8-speed automatic gearbox and Audi’s excellent Quattro all-wheel-drive system.
It may seem unfair to pitch a £20,000 Dacia Duster against a £107,000 behemoth of an Audi, but the little Dacia does have a few tricks up its sleeve. First off it’s the lightest car here by far, coming in at 1,405kg compared to the Audi’s 2,315kg. It’s also on all terrain tyres and 17-inch alloys, as opposed to the Audi’s road tyres wrapped around 23-inch rims.
Where the Dacia Duster falls down is on power. It has a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine putting out 115hp and 260nm of torque. This engine is paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox and a switchable all-wheel-drive system.
So the Audi may be 5 times the price, but will it be 5 times better when the going gets rough? You’ll have to watch the video to find out.
