This is the new Tesla Model 3 Performance. It may not be much quicker than the car it replaces, but there are some suspension upgrades to make it more fun through the corners.

  • New Tesla Model 3 Performance revealed
  • Similar power figures to the old car
  • 0-60mph in 2.9 seconds
  • Sporty styling upgrades
  • Available to order now from £59,990

Hot on the heels of the updated Tesla Model 3, the hot Performance version has made its debut.

This alternative to the Polestar 2 and BMW i4 now has a bit more power than before, and the suspension has been tweaked for better handling.

New Tesla Model 3 Performance motors

Just like the old Tesla Model 3 Performance, this new version has two electric motors and all-wheel drive. Sadly there’s no Plaid-esque tri-motor setup on offer, however it’s still packing plenty of power.

Combined you get 460hp, which is a whopping three horses more than you got previously. This modest increase in power means you get the same 0-60mph time as before, with the Model 3 Performance completing the sprint in 2.9 seconds.

That still makes it a full second quicker than a BMW i4 M50, while the most powerful Polestar 2 takes 4.2 seconds to reach 60mph. What’s more impressive is the fact it’s only 0.1 of a second slower than a Porsche 911 Turbo, and that car is almost £100,000 more expensive.

New Tesla Model 3 Performance track mode

The biggest change to the new Tesla Model 3 Performance is the suspension and chassis. The springs and dampers are now stiffer than before, and you get high-performance tyres as standard.

Also new is the adaptive damping which can increase the stiffness under hard cornering to keep the car flat, and you now have a track mode, like on the Model S Plaid, which allows you to customise the stability control to have fun on the circuit.

New Tesla Model 3 Performance design

Unlike the old Model 3 Performance, this new one actually gets some visual changes to help distinguish it from the standard car.

Starting up front, the lower bumper now has more aggressive-looking air intakes and it has additional cooling ducts for the battery. The 20-inch alloy wheels are also unique to this model.

Things look pretty familiar from the side, although the Performance does sit slightly lower. It’s at the rear that you’ll spot the boot lip spoiler and the deeper lower diffuser, making it clear to onlookers that this is no cooking Model 3.

How much is the new Tesla Model 3 Performance?

The new Tesla Model 3 Performance is available to order now, with prices starting from £59,990. That makes it a hefty £20,000 more expensive than the basic Model 3, but when you consider that it offers Porsche 911 Turbo levels of performance for almost £100,000 less then it starts to seem like a bit of a bargain.
