The 10 best comfortable cars on sale

Sporty suspension and large alloy wheels can make a car great to drive but can make long journeys uncomfortable and tiresome. Thankfully, some manufacturers still offer cars that cushion you from even the roughest roads.

We’ve picked out the 10 comfiest offerings currently on sale to help you choose the ideal new car. Once you’ve picked your favourite, take a look at the best new car deals page or check out our PCP calculator to get a better idea how much it could cost per month.

1. Skoda Superb

The Skoda Superb makes a great motorway cruiser thanks to its comfortable ride and range of efficient engines. Optional adaptive dampeners are available to offer an even cushier experience – in their comfort setting the Superb floats over bumps like a limousine.

If you regularly carry passengers, the acres of legroom offered by its long wheelbase isn’t likely to go unnoticed – the umbrella Skoda hides in the rear door, however, might do. With entry-level cars costing just £19,020, you’ll struggle to find another car this size with an equally refined ride for such an affordable price.

2. Citroen C4 Cactus

The Citroen C4 Cactus continues the French brand’s tradition of building some of the most comfortable cars money can buy. Its lightweight chassis and soft suspension help it deal with bumps and rutted roads with ease.

Step inside the Cactus and you’re greeted by a chic interior with sofa-like bench seats in both the front and the back. There’s also a surprising amount of space to stretch out in and rear-seat passengers are treated to an airy view through the large windows, too.

3. Mercedes S-Class Coupe

The Mercedes S-Class Coupe offers drivers a slightly more involving alternative to the larger S-Class saloon. Don’t think the German brand’s most luxurious coupe is a bumpy back-to-basics sports car, however – this two-door S-Class has been kitted out the with all the necessary features to make sure you’re cushioned and cosseted at all times.

One such system uses a camera to scan the road ahead and adjust the car’s air suspension accordingly to help reduce body roll and soften jarring potholes. Factor in a superbly built cabin with swathes of leather trim and the S-Class Coupe makes a strong case for itself, despite the £98,050 asking price.

Inside the i10, you’ll find an interior that’s both larger and better equipped than many rivals. Four can travel in reasonable comfort, even on a longer journey, and top-trim levels get luxuries including climate control, heated seats and even a heated steering wheel – all for approximately £13,000.
