  • Funky hatchback inspired by the classic Panda 4×4
  • Expected to share parts with the Citroen C3
  • Hybrid and electric versions will be offered
  • Could go on sale by the end of the year

Fiat has pulled the covers off the new Grande Panda, a replacement for its ageing quirky hatchback.

The styling has been inspired by the classic Panda 4×4, albeit with a modern twist, and it’s likely to share parts with the Citroen C3 and Vauxhall Frontera.

New Fiat Grande Panda design

The new Fiat Grande Panda has been inspired by the boxy Panda 4×4 from the 1980s, but it looks a whole lot more modern and funky than that car.

New Fiat Grande Panda front

It has an upright front end with a funky full-width black panel in place of a traditional grille. The pixel style LEDs are a bit Hyundai-esque as well, but the overall shape is similar to the Citroen E-C3.

New Fiat Grande Panda side

The Citroen theme continues down the side, where the Grande Panda has a similar boxy silhouette. That said, there are plenty of styling changes to help this Panda stand out. It literally says Panda in huge pressed letters for starters, and the X-shaped 17-inch alloy wheels look cool as well.

New Fiat Grande Panda rear

Moving to the rear, there are no traditional badges in sight, with the Fiat logo being pressed into the tailgate. The jacked-up ride height and black cladding around the lower edge lend the Grande Panda a rugged appearance, just like the old Panda 4×4.

New Fiat Grande Panda engines and motors

Fiat is remaining tight-lipped about the technical details, other than to say you’ll be able to get hybrid and electric versions. This new Grande Panda is likely to share parts with the Citroen C3 and Vauxhall Frontera. They all belong to the same group after all, which also includes Peugeot.

This means you can expect to see a choice between a 1.2-litre petrol hybrid or an all-electric model with a 156hp motor, however you’ll have to wait for a full reveal to find out for sure.

New Fiat Grande Panda: when can I buy one?

The new Fiat Panda is expected to go one sale by the end of the year, however there’s no word on pricing just yet. You can expect it to be pretty affordable though, with a figure somewhere in line with the Citroen C3’s £22,000 seeming likely.
