  • New Maserati GranTurismo Folgore on sale now
  • All-electric sports car costs from £180,000
  • Three motors with 761hp
  • 0-60mph in 2.7 seconds
  • Up to 283 miles of range

Sales of the first ever all-electric Maserati sports car have now begun. The GranTurismo Folgore is available to order now, and it costs £180,000. That’s a chunky £30,000 more than a Porsche Taycan Turbo S, and it’s almost £70,000 more than an Audi RS e-tron GT.

For this hefty sum of money you get 761hp courtesy of three electric motors and a top speed of 202mph, and it’ll do up to 283 miles on a charge.

New Maserati GranTurismo Folgore price and specs

£180,000 is a lot of money to spend on a car, even one as exotic and luxurious as this. So what do you get for your money?

Well, all cars get a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a 12.2-inch digital driver’s display, a head-up display, a 360-degree camera system and voice commands. You also get 21-inch wheels at the rear and 20-inch wheels at the front.

Things start to get even more costly when you look at the options list. Fancy your Italian sports car in a colour other than white or black? Well you can have grey for £3,750, but every other shade has to come from Maserati’s Fuoriserie colour palette, starting at £15,000 and going up to an eye-watering £27,000.

For a bit of context, the Porsche Taycan Turbo S offers almost identical power and starts from just under £150,000, while the Audi RS e-tron GT is nearly a whopping £70,000 cheaper.

New Maserati GranTurismo Folgore motors and performance

Okay, so the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore is a bit dear, but at least it has the performance to back up the big price tag. There’s just one version available, and it has three electric motors putting out 761hp and an impressive 1,350Nm of torque.

That’s exactly the same horsepower output as the Porsche Taycan Turbo S, and it;s around 300Nm more torque. The Audi RS e-tron GT is more than 160hp down on the GranTurismo.

The upshot of this is that the Folgore will do 0-60mph in 2.7 seconds, a whole one tenth of a second faster than the Taycan and 0.3 of a second quicker than the RS e-tron GT. Only the Tesla Model S Plaid is faster by any significant margin when you’re talking about EVs.

New Maserati GranTurismo Folgore batteries and range

All this performance is great, a lot of people will be wondering about range when it comes to an electric sports car. Well, the Maserati GranTurismo Folgore has a 92.5kWh battery pack which will deliver up to 283 miles of range.

That’s around the same as a Porsche Taycan Turbo S, however a Tesla Model S Plaid will deliver thrills for up to 373 miles before you have to stop and plug in (and let the adrenaline settle).
