Volvo V40 exterior dimensions

The V40 is in a competitive class with the VW Golf, Audi A3 and Mercedes A-Class to contend with. On the outside, the car is larger than many of its rivals, partly thanks to only being available in practical five-door form.

Height 1,420mm
Length 4,369mm
Width including door mirrors 2,041mm
Wheelbase 2,647mm

Volvo V40 interior dimensions

The V40 might be big on the outside, but it’s not as spacious as some of its competitors in the inside. The Golf in particular makes better use of its cabin space thanks to being based on a more modern platform. Nevertheless, there’s still enough space for a family of four and a stylish, well-built cabin.

Headroom (front/rear) 984/932mm
Legroom (front/rear) 1,073/847mm
Shoulder room (front/rear) 1,396/1,349mm

Volvo V40 luggage and fuel tank capacity

Like the interior, the boot isn’t quite as generous as others in its class. Again, 335 litres is a healthy amount and is more than enough for a trip to the supermarket. The fairly large 62-litre fuel tank means trips to the petrol station will be less frequent than some rivals.

Boot size 335 litres
Fuel tank 62 litres

Volvo V40 turning circle

The V40’s 10.8-metre turning circle isn’t particularly ground-breaking, but is narrower than the VW Golf’s and roughly average for the class.

Turning circle 10.8 metres

Volvo V40 weight

The V40 is towards the larger end of the hatchback spectrum, so is heavier than rivals such as the Golf, which is 350kg lighter. The lightest model of the V40 weighs in at 1,561kg.

Minimum weight 1,561kg
