Drag race: 1,000hp BMW M4 vs BMW M1000RR

January 26, 2024 by

Mat didn’t fancy a go on the superbike on our freezing runway today, so he’s fired up the BMW M4 Competition (and its heated seats). As standard this car has a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged straight-six with 510hp and 650Nm of torque. This one is far from standard though thanks to the folks at Evolve Automotive. They’ve built the engine, fitted two much bigger turbochargers and given it a load of other upgrades to boost the power to 1,000hp and 1,000Nm of torque. This is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox, and the car tips the scales at 1,775kg. The basic car will cost you £84,000, but this one has an additional £35,000 worth of upgrades.

That’s nearly as much in upgrades as the BMW M1000RR costs in total. It has a price tag of £38,000, and this gets you a 1,000cc engine with 212hp, which is a massive number when you consider that the bike and rider combined weigh just 270kg. That gives the bike a power-to-weight ratio of 785hp per tonne, compared to the car’s figure of 560hp per tonne.

So which of these crazy machines will dominate the drag strip today? You’ll have to watch the video to find out…
