If you fancy the look of a Maserati GranTurismo, but are after some wind-in-the-hair thrills, the new GranCabrio is here to satisfy your cravings. Read on for all you need to know.

  • New Maserati GranCabrio revealed

  • Twin-turbocharged V6 engine with 542hp
  • Similar performance to a BMW M4
  • All-electric version coming soon
  • Available to order now
  • Costs from £169,465

Maserati has chopped the top off the GranTurismo to create this, the GranCabrio. You may take a fancy to this car if you’re also looking at something like a BMW M4 Convertible or a Mercedes CLE Convertible.

Available from launch in Trofeo trim only, the GranCabrio is fitted with a twin-turbocharged V6 engine putting out a healthy 542hp, and an all-electric Folgore version will join the range further down the line.

New Maserati GranCabrio design

If you’re a fan of the Maserati GranTurismo, the GranCabrio offers similar appeal in terms of design. It has the same sleek lines and muscular stance as the coupe, only now it has the added appeal of a soft top.

Up front you have the same sleek headlights as the GranTurismo, as well as that car’s slim oval grille. Being the Trofeo version, there’s also an aggressive-looking lower bumper with large air intakes.

It’s the side profile which sets the GranCabrio apart, especially when the roof is down. This drop-top has a more elegant look to it than the coupe does, although the side skirts do lend it a touch of sportiness.

New Maserati GranCabrio engine and performance

From launch, the new Maserati GranCabrio will only be sold as a Trofeo model with a 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine. This will launch you from 0-60mph in 3.6 seconds, and it’ll go on to a top speed of 196mph.

That’s only 0.1 of a second slower than the GranTurismo, and it’s almost exactly the same as a BMW M4 Convertible. A Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet is around half a second quicker though.

Further down the line there will be an all-electric Folgore version of the GranCabrio. The GranTurismo Folgore uses three electric motors with a combined 761hp and it has 280 miles of range. Expect to see similar numbers from this convertible EV.

How much is the Maserati GranCabrio

The new Maserati GranCabrio is available to order now, but you’ll have to part with a gut-wrenching £169,465 to get your hands on one. This can easily be pushed north of £200,000 with some special paint and upgraded wheels.

By comparison, the BMW M4 Convertible offers similar performance for just over £88,000. You can even have a Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet for the same money. Still, that exotic Trident emblem will be enough to tempt some away from the German alternatives.
