Drag race: Audi RS6 Performance vs BMW M5 Competition vs Mercedes-AMG E63 S

For this Saturday’s drag race, we have a really exciting one with Audi’s updated RS6 Performance going against its biggest rivals – BMW’s M5 Competition and the Mercedes-AMG E63 S.

Mat gets behind the wheel of the Audi, which in Performance form has an uprated version of the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8. It now gets 630hp and 850Nm of torque – 30hp and 50Nm more than the standard car – with that power transferred to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox. It’s still quite chunky though, weighing in at 2,090kg, and the price is quite chunky too, starting from just under £113,000.

The BMW is slightly cheaper, starting from £111,425. The M5 Competition has a slightly larger engine though – a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 – but power is a touch down on the Audi, with 625hp and 750Nm of torque. That power is sent to all four wheels by an eight-speed automatic gearbox, while the car weighs 1,865kg – a fair bit less than the Audi.

Finally, we have the Merc. The E63 S has a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 that makes 612hp and 850Nm of torque. With all-wheel drive and a nine-speed multi-clutch automatic transmission to put that power down, the Merc sits in the middle of the weight range at 1,950kg. But it’s the least expensive here, costing £106,485.
