The new Ford Ka is a small car that gets reasonable, but not glowing, reviews.
Many experts recommend the instead, as it's better looking and more fun. The Ka isn't a bad car by any means, but make sure you consider rivals too.
Ford’s Ka gets reasonable reviews, but it’s certainly not without its flaws. It gets for its cheap price to buy and the low running costs. Insurance won't be too high and all the engines are economical.Unfortunately some journalists are disappointed by it, and aren't impressed with the engines offered.
If there’s something familiar about the shape of the Ka’s dashboard, you aren’t mistaken. Sharing a platform with Fiat’s Panda and 500, the Ka has the same high-mounted gearshift and higher-mounted radio positioning. Styling-wise, it’s more similar to the Fiesta. Plastics are a bit cheap, but like the 500 and Panda, interior space is very good.
The old Ka was something of a handling master, with decent ride quality and more fun than any small car since the Mini. The new Ka isn’t as impressive, but it’s not bad. By firming up the chassis from the Fiat, the ride is occasionally choppy, but testers say it handles well. Steering is a little short on feel.
Two engines are available, a 1.2 petrol and 1.3 diesel. Opinion is split on which is better. The petrol is much cheaper, while still getting 57mpg. The diesel is stronger, gets nearly 70mpg and needs less thrashing.
Value for money
A wide range of trim levels are available, and lower ones are quite cheap. However, at similar prices to the equivalent Fiat 500, the Ford lacks image and resale values are unlikely to be as high either.

Many reviews seem to suggest the same thing - the Ka is good, but in such a competitive market, not really good enough to make a splash in any particular area. It’s worth looking around before taking the plunge.

Ford Ka User Reviews
Replaced our old Ka back in September 2010 and have never looked back, the new Ka is seriously superior to the old one! What an improvement. Not only does it feel like a wholly different vehicle to drive - there’s a sporty feel to it, but the styling is a million miles better. The back lights are really funky and both front and back give the appearance of the car having eyelashes which I love! It’s definitely sexy. Inside it’s comfy and there’s plenty of room, even in its booty.
It’s well built and feels safe (gripping well even on country roads), is easy to park and is perfect for short trips and what’s more it’s never let me down. I have heard that servicing at our Ford dealership can be slow from friends but have not experienced this yet myself so I can’t really say. The only slight annoyance I have with it is that it does seem to struggle ever so slightly on hills at times, but it’s not that bad at all.
Fuel economy is fab, even better than on the previous model. Road tax is low too. You get great value for money with this baby, and owning one is a lot of fun, though I wouldn’t really recommend it for long journeys particularly with passengers in the back as it is a bit noisy and rear seating isn’t great. Other than that it’s perfect!
