2019 BMW M8 Competition price and release date
The 2019 BMW M8 Competition coupe costs £123,000; a convertible version will be available, too, and will cost £7,000 more.
2019 BMW M8 Competition styling
The 2019 BMW M8 Competition is the souped-up, performance-oriented version of the current BMW 8 Series. The sleek shape, signature headlights and distinctive ‘kidney’ grille are all carried over from the regular 8 Series, but the looks are beefed up by an aggressive-looking lower front bumper, massive air vents and four 100mm-diameter exhaust pipes. Black, 20-inch alloy wheels complete the sporty makeover to give the M8 a more savage look.
2019 BMW M8 Competition engine
The 2019 BMW M8 Competition comes with the most powerful engine that BMW Motorsport (the brand’s racing-oriented wing) has ever produced. It’s a 4.4-litre, twin-turbocharged petrol V8, which you can also find in the BMW M5 Competition, and which produces 625hp and 750Nm of torque.
The 2019 BMW M8 Competition is four-wheel drive, again using the same system as the M5 Competition. This setup has three settings. The first is a regular 4WD mode, designed to be as grippy as possible in all weather conditions. The next is 4WD Sport, which sends slightly more power to the rear wheels. Finally, there’s a purely rear-wheel-drive mode, for a more ‘exhilarating’ experience.
2019 BMW M8 Competition performance
The 2019 BMW M8 Competition coupe is the fastest-accelerating BMW car on sale. It can go from 0-62mph in a mind-boggling 3.2 seconds. That’s 0.4 seconds faster than the Aston Martin DB11 – which costs £50,000 more. The sprint from 0-124mph, meanwhile, takes 10.6 seconds.
As a convertible, the 2019 BMW M8 Competition takes 3.3 seconds to hit 62mph and 11.1 seconds to hit 124mph from a standstill.
2019 BMW M8 Competition specs
The 2019 BMW M8 Competition offers an armada of driving modes. Not only are there rear- and four-wheel-drive options; you can also choose between Efficient, Sport and Sport Plus, which adjust the stiffness of the suspension. There’s also an M Mode button that adjusts between Road, Sport and Track driving setups. Sport turns off any autonomous driving, while Track switches off any and all electronic aids.
2019 BMW M8 Competition interior and infotainment
As a range-topping, near-£125,000 coupe, the 2019 BMW M8 Competition offers a lot of features as standard. Inside, you’ll find a full Merino leather cabin. The seats are electronically adjustable and there’s a leather, M Sport-branded steering wheel.
BMW’s lauded iDrive infotainment system returns in the 2019 BMW M8 Competition. With it comes a 12-inch instrument binnacle and 10-inch, voice-controlled digital screen. Options will include laser headlights and a number of autonomous driving features that partially drive the car.
