Drag race: Bugatti Chiron Super Sport vs Tesla Model S Plaid Track Package

Mat’s behind the wheel of the £4 million Bugatti Chiron Super Sport for this race. Mounted behind him is an 8.0-litre W16 engine and, as if that wasn’t bonkers enough, it has four turbochargers. That makes for some insane power, 1,600hp and 1,600Nm of torque to be precise, sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. It is on the heavy side though, with that enormous engine and all the luxury trimmings bringing it up to 1,995kg.

That’s still not as heavy as the Tesla Model S Plaid though, with that car tipping the scales at 2,190kg thanks to all the batteries under the floor. It’s down on power compared to the Bugatti as well. The Plaid gets three electric motors, putting out a combined 1,020hp and 1,420Nm of torque. This may make it seem like the Tesla is on the back foot, however it should have acceleration on its side thanks to the instant power delivery from the motors. This car also has the Track Package, meaning it has forged aluminium wheels, carbon ceramic brakes and an increased top speed, going from 163mph to 200mph. It’s a lot cheaper than the Bugatti, with a price tag of £135,000.
