Fancy something that’s rear-wheel drive, offers plenty of performance and a bold design? Well, the Ford Mustang Bullitt and Lexus LC could be right up your street. But which will come out on top in this all-important carwow drag race?
Tap the video to watch the race.
The Ford Mustang Bullitt is a special edition version of America’s ‘true pony car’, built to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the cult classic car-chase movie of the same name, featuring Steve McQueen.
This special edition Mustang comes equipped with a 5.0-litre V8 engine that’s paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The engine produces an impressive 459hp and 529Nm of torque, which it sends to the rear wheels – as any self-respecting muscle car should.
It weighs in at a fairly muscular 1851kg, too, and will hit you with a bill for (in the case of our car) £59,085.
Next up is the Lexus LC500, a powerful rear-wheel-drive GT, and the flagship coupe in the current Lexus line-up. While the Mustang shape is iconic and has only gradually evolved over a 50-year period, the Lexus LC has a bold new design that looks as though it was lifted straight from a motor-show concept car (which, in a way, it was).
Just like the Mustang, the LC500 comes equipped with a naturally aspiraated 5.0-litre V8 but it produces slightly more power – how does 464hp and 530Nm sound? This is fed through a 10-speed automatic gearbox to the rear wheels.
If the Ford Mustang is a body-builder, then the Lexus LC is more of a sumo wrestler; it tips the scales at 1965kg. Its price tag is equally hefty – the car we have here will set you back more than £90,000, which is considerably more than the Mustang.
So, which will you choose? American muscle or Japanese luxury? Maybe our drag race will help you decide…
