Audi A5 Cabriolet interior

Like so many recent Audi products, the A5 Cabriolet’s interior is beautifully built, stylishly designed and laid out with a meticulous attention to detail making it a great place to while away the miles

The A5 Cabriolet dashboard is dominated by a stretch of material – faux aluminium or matt black wood depending on trim and options – that houses the climate controls and little else. This minimalist approach has sensibly put many of the controls in the standard infotainment system helping tidy up the appearance of the cockpit compared to the button-laden 0ld model.

Potentially the best cabin in its class

Audi’s MMI infotainment system is perhaps fractionally less intuitive than BMW’s class-leading iDrive system, but runs it a close second. What’s more, the navigation that comes as standard on mid-range Sport trim and up makes use of Google Maps satellite images, meaning finding the right route is that much easier.

All models can be fitted with the optional Virtual Cockpit digital dials. We’d strongly recommend this option because it’s not prohibitively expensive and brings a high-tech feel to the driver’s view ahead. It can be configured to display representations of traditional dials or to make them smaller and show a larger version of the map from the infotainment system.

This also mates well with the optional head-up display that can be configured to show speed and simplified sat-nav directions. This might sound similar to the other systems but the fact you needn’t take your eyes off the road to use it lends a genuine sense of safety to proceedings.
