When it comes to choice at the premium end of the car market, Audi offers something for almost everyone. From fancy city cars such as the A1 to bonafide supercars including the R8, the German brand has one of the widest ranges of any current car maker.
Audi sells three high-riding, off-road-inspired SUVs. We’ve taken a look at each to help you decide which is the one for you. Once you’ve picked the model you want, put it in our car configurator to see how much carwow could help you save.
Audi’s SUV range
It’s easy to spot the SUVs in Audi’s range – each is designated by a Q followed by a number. The larger the number, the larger the car. Each number roughly corresponds in size to similarly-numbered A-prefixed model, for example – the Q3 most closely resembles the A3.
The Audi Q3 is currently the smallest SUV in the lineup and is the firm’s rival to the Range Rover Evoque and Mercedes GLA. It was first released in 2011 and a facelift in 2015 introduced revised styling and more powerful, efficient engines.
It’s similar in length and in width to the current A3. Engine options include two flavours of diesel (the most popular being the 148hp, 61.4mpg 2.0-litre) and three petrol engines – the most potent of which is the rather bonkers RS Q3. Powered by a turbocharged 2.5-litre five-cylinder unit, it accelerates from 0-62mph in 4.8 seconds, making it one of the fastest SUVs on sale.
Being the smallest Audi SUV, the Q3 is also the cheapest. It’s priced from just over £25,000 for the entry-level 1.4-litre petrol, and climb to around £46,000 for the RS Q3.

Currently the oldest SUV Audi makes, the Audi Q5 still boasts the usual quality fit and finish expected of the marque. This is most apparent inside, where the cabin looks both as expensive and spacious as class rivals.
Aside from one petrol, the engine lineup is diesel only, the pick of which is the 187hp, 2.0-litre unit. Combining a 0-62mph time of 8.4 seconds and returning a claimed 49.6mpg, it offers buyers the best mixture of performance and economy.

The seven-seat flagship to the SUV trio, the Audi Q7, is packed with the firm’s latest technology to help it compete with the likes of the Range Rover Sport and BMW X5. Powered by a 268hp 3.0-litre diesel engine, it costs from just over £50,000.
Sitting on the Volkswagen Group’s latest luxury SUV platform (also used by the Bentley Bentayga) it makes use of lightweight construction materials to shed 240kg compared to its predecessor – improving performance and fuel efficiency in the process.
Optional features include air suspension, a host of driver and safety assists, and the fantastic Virtual Cockpit – a 12.3-inch screen that replaces the traditional dials. To our eyes, the rest of the cabin is one of the most attractive currently available, too.

Audi intends to expand its SUV selection over the next few years. The smallest – expected to be dubbed either Q1 or Q2 – will offer a premium alternative to compact crossovers such as the Nissan Juke while competing directly against the Mini Countryman.
