Mazda 2 Black and White editions unveiled

There’s an all-new Mazda 2 out later this year, but that’s not stopped Mazda unveiling two new special editions of the outgoing model to tempt gadget-savvy buyers.

The Mazda 2 Black and White editions take a five-door Mazda 2 in Jet Black Mica or Crystal White Pearlescent and add dark grey 15-inch alloy wheels, a sportier ‘diffuser-style’ rear bumper, darkened privacy glass and the free option of a bonnet and roof stripes. If that wasn’t enough to give the slightly conservative-looking Mazda a hint of youthful exuberance you get special ‘Black Edition’ or ‘White Edition’ badges too.

On the inside the White and Black editions get black seats with red piping around the edges, and a few trim pieces around the air vents and doors that match the exterior colour.

Is it all about the looks?

Nope! Mazda’s added a free Bluetooth system which is controllable from buttons on the steering wheel. You also get air-conditioning, a CD player, a USB connection so you can plug in your mobile devices to the car’s sound system, and heated and folding door mirrors.

Do I get a choice of engines?

No – the special editions both use Mazda’s 1.3-litre 74hp petrol, and are only available with a five-speed manual gearbox.

What will they cost?

The Mazda 2 Black and White editions will set you back £12,145, and Mazda is keen to point out that you can get hold of one on a Personal Contract Purchase finance scheme without having to pay a deposit, and you’ll be given £750 as a deposit contribution to bring that list price down – at least until the end of March 2015.
