New Lexus LX 600 spotted: price, specs and release date

September 01, 2021 by

The new Lexus LX 600 has been spied wearing heavy camouflage. This is shaping up to be one of the most capable ultra-luxurious off-roaders around, but it isn’t destined for the UK. Read on for all you need to know about this posh SUV.

  • Lexus LX 600 spotted
  • To be based on new Toyota Land Cruiser
  • V6 turbocharged petrol and diesel engines likely
  • Seven-seater layout
  • Luxurious interior
  • Not destined for the UK
  • Likely on sale globally in 2022

This is the next generation Lexus LX 600, spotted testing covered in full-body camouflage. This luxurious off-roader is destined to be sold in the UAE and Russia where it will be an alternative to other posh SUVs like the BMW X7, Range Rover and Mercedes-Benz GLS.

New Lexus LX 600 design

The fabric panels covering this Lexus LX 600 test car do a great job of hiding any specific design details.

However, because it’ll be based on the same Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) underpinnings as the new Land Cruiser (another model not destined for the UK) it’s likely the new LX 600’s silhouette will closely mirror that car’s profile.

The signature Lexus spindle-shaped grille can be seen extending right from the bonnet line down to the base of the front bumper and the extended arches and tread plates will be familiar to current LX owners.

The raised ride height and full-size spare wheel peeking out from below the rear bumper indicate that this will once again be a luxurious SUV designed for real off roading.

New Lexus LX 600 interior

The Lexus LX 600 will base its interior on the Toyota Land Cruiser’s cabin, above

The interior may share the same basic infotainment layout and some of the switchgear of the latest Toyota Land Cruiser, but it will certainly come with plusher interior finishes and materials.

The LX 600 should come with seven seats like the new Land Cruiser, shown here

Unlike some other manufacturers, the LX 600’s cabin should still offer a number of physical buttons to complement the digital driver display and touchscreen. As before, the LX 600 will be offered with three rows of seats.

New Lexus LX 600 engines and driving

The outgoing LX 570 relies on an ageing 5.7-litre V8 engine that is powerful (producing 383hp) but very thirsty.

It is quite likely that this new model will use a version of the twin-turbo V6 petrol and diesel engines from the new Land Cruiser. In that car these engines produce 304hp and 409hp respectively and are paired with a 10-speed automatic gearbox.

New Lexus LX 600 price and release date

The Lexus LX 600 is not destined for the UK, but it should be officially unveiled later this year in other regions with sales commencing in 2022. The current range-topping Lexus LX 570 SUV is priced to compete with a base-spec Range Rover and mid-range BMW X7 in overseas markets, so it should sell for the equivalent of £85,000.
