2022 Peugeot 308 design
The spy shots of the new Peugeot 308 make it difficult to examine the car in great detail but you can can see a familiar five-door hatchback silhouette beneath the camouflage. At the front, a narrow set of headlights with LED daytime running lights can be seen through the wrap. The lights converge with what looks to be new longer grille that accentuates the front end’s curves.
The sporty-looking hatch has a more aggressive sweeping roofline than before that’s complemented by a subtle spoiler at the rear. The new model also looks to be slightly wider than the current 308, and it’s quite low to the ground, too.
2022 Peugeot 308 interior and infotainment
An image of the new Peugeot 308’s interior shows the car will get a similar i-Cockpit layout to other Peugeot models, meaning you’ll look over the relatively small steering wheel at the digital driver’s display mounted high up on the dashboard. Interestingly, it looks as though Peugeot’s signature lion emblem has been replaced by a new shield-like design in the centre on the steering wheel.
The dash and infotainment system are fairly well hidden in the spy pic but keeping it in-line with all new cars, you can expect to see a large touch screen infotainment system with a series of metal piano-like shortcut keys underneath.
2022 Peugeot 308 engines
The new Peugeot 308 is expected to get plug-in hybrid power, which will probably use a 1.6-litre petrol engine paired with an electric motor to drive the front wheels. However, a second all-wheel-drive hybrid performance model is likely, and the set up proposed for 508 PSE performance saloon could be utilised here too.
The hot-hatch four-wheel-drive option would offer around 300hp – the combined power of a turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol engine driving the front wheels and a beefy electric motor driving those at the back. Expect a number of chassis and suspension upgrades to cope with the additional performance, making the car an alternative to the Volkswagen Golf R and Audi S3.
2022 Peugeot 308 driving
The upcoming Peugeot 308 will be built on an updated version of the basic building blocks used in the outgoing 308. This same mechanical base also underpins more than a dozen Peugeot, Citroen and Vauxhall models, but has received some negative feedback over the years, specifically with regards to how the car feels to drive – it will be interesting to see if Peugeot has addressed this in the all-new model.
2022 Peugeot 308 price and release date
The current Peugeot 308 has recently been updated so it’s likely that the all-new model won’t launch until 2022. You can expect it to cost from around £23,000, which is similar to the outgoing car, but hybrid and/or electric variants will be more expensive. Expect hatchback and estate versions to be offered too.
